Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Citizens of Oakland County,
My name is Joe Kent and I’m running because we need a treasurer who will stand up for the people of Oakland County, protect the legacy of L. Brooks Patterson and be a strong voice against higher taxes.
Recent media reports have damaged the public’s confidence in the Oakland County Treasurer’s office and county governance in general. People who know me and my professional background asked me to
get involved. I feel a duty to answer that call. My family and I are multi-generational residents of Oakland County.
I’m firmly committed to preserving and protecting the quality of life that we’ve been blessed to enjoy here. I’m also deeply troubled by the future prospects for Oakland County’s AAA bond rating. The loss of this rating will raise property taxes and rental rates for all Oakland County residents.
The clock is ticking.
Joe opposes tax increases and is the only treasurer candidate to sign the American’s For Tax Reform Pledge against higher taxes.
Joe believes in spending restraint and balanced budgets. Tax revenues represent sacred funds paid by hard-working individuals and families and should be treated that way by those with spending authority.
Joe is 100 percent pro-life from conception to natural death. He is married to his college sweetheart and a proud father. His parents both lived into their 90s with Joe and his siblings at their side through every joy and challenge.
Joe believes that private property rights are foundational to the United States and must be protected from overzealous bureaucrats.
Joe is a fierce advocate for openness in government, especially as it relates to financial reporting. Uses of tax dollars should be fully disclosed in a timely and understandable manner.
Joe understands that America's Constitution was written to limit the reach of the Federal Government, and that powers not specifically granted to the Federal Government belong to the States.
Leaders throughout Oakland County recognize Joe Kent as highly qualified to be Oakland County's next Treasurer.
